Skin care after treatment

What to do post-treatment will be advised on appointment, after care differs. Please send me a message if you are unsure of what to do next.

The post-treatment followup is equally as crucial as the therapy itself. Some clients who come in for facials tell me they clean their faces with baby wipes or makeup wipes. This is a useless activity since it will just sweep any dust/makeup around your face into the corners without truly removing it. Micellar water is OK for the first cleansing to remove dust and makeup, but your second cleanse should always contain a proper cleanser and water to take away any remaining debris (unless otherwise instructed). If you've never had a skin care routine, it might be overwhelming because there are so many products that promise the world.

The most simple of skin care routines can improve your skins appearance with just a few main factors. Cleanse, moisturize and sun protection factor (SPF) 30 or above in the morning the spf can be left out at night. This will be sufficient if you have no skin concerns and want a simple routine. Double cleanse at night to remove all make up and debris that have built up over the day. Some times toner can be too astringent and dry skin out. Do not be afraid to miss out toner if you feel it does not suit your skin.

Serums should be included in your routine these should be applied before moisturizer. Match key ingredients to your skin type hyaluronic acid is hydrating and anti aging is a good all round serum.

Exfoliate once a week to keep your skin free from an over build up of dead skin cells, dust and bacteria. If you have a particular skin care concern ie dry, premature aging, sun damage or acne is when you want to look for key elements in skin care to help reduce your symptoms. I recommend chemical exfoliation rather then scrubs. With bitty scrubs they can be over abrasive causing mirco-tears in the skin leaving open spores these fill with bacteria and cause breakouts.

Sheet masks are an excellent way to hydrate your skin after exfoliation. If you pop your sheet mask in the fridge 20 minutes prior to application the cooling sheet will help shrink/ close pores. Before using sheet masks always double cleanse so the skin is clean and can absorb all the goodness of the sheet. Under eye, collagen pads are more effective when refrigerated to, the chilled pad helps bring back circulation and reduces any swelling and dark circles.

Non-comedogenic products do not contain any ingredients that block your pores. When purchasing skincare and make-up products always look out for the term "non-comedogenic", especially in something that is long wearing. (IE foundations, primer, highlighter).

For facial clients, i will recommend key ingredients to look for in skin care on treatment day after i have analyzed your skin. New skin care products should be test patched 48 hours in small areas normally behind the ear to ensure no allergies or adverse effects. When introducing new skin care products with active ingredients you should give the product at least 28 days to work as the skin cycle itself is 28 days. Purging can occur when using new products. Please get in touch with me with any queries regarding recommended products.
